NEWS IN BRIEF

The Oakleigh Park Men’s Closed tournament was won by hot favourite Jason Dodd, but not without a spirited display from his opponent, 2nd team number one, Las Fernando.

An audience of around 40 were treated to a spectacular display of shot making and retrieving in what was an exhausting encounter – Jason triumphing 3-1.

Club President Trevor Sargent was on hand to present the combatants with their plaques.

Alison Waters wins UK Nationals thriller!

Alison (currently ranked 5 in the world), contested the final with World number 3 Jenny Duncalf. In a superb 65 minute match she found herself 1-6 down in the fifth, but launched an amazing comeback, pulling back to 5-6 then, when it seemed all over at 5-9 (11 points wins) she saved a match point totake it to a 10-10 tiebreaker before winning 12-10.

A phenomenal win for Alison which will be a tremendous boost to her career. On top of World Tour wins in Connecticut and Cleveland "on the bounce" this is now a great hat-trick.
