Whilst the weather is rather unpredictable these days, I am delighted to say that last Sunday we were very fortunate as we had a fantastic OPEN DAY on a grey but at least DRY day with lots of sunny spells ;-). The club was heaving with visitors including many families and children of all playing standards, as well as people who came to see us for a day out and savour one or two delicious burgers or cakes 😉 It was truly amazing and I would like to thank everyone who helped make this day such a wonderful event. See the attached pictures. We signed up 20 adults, 27 children and 1 student and have now followed up with everyone else who has left us contact details.
Our next promotional event will be the ‘Love Whetstone’ day on the High Road, which is on Sunday 4th June. I will remind you next week, but do put the date in your diary please. We will have a stand on the High Road and I am still looking for volunteers who can man our stand for an hour or so as I will have to return to the club to welcome visitors during the day.
As you have noticed, we were recently cleaning our macadam courts and will soon do the second part of the project, which is repainting and repairing loose bits. I will confirm the date as soon as possible. Starting on the 12th June we will refurbish the front courts on the right, as they are getting slippery because of the rather compacted sand.
You will have seen the new NO PARKING signs in the car park. We noticed that more cars which come in, now tend to turn round and exit straight away. If you see them leave their cars, please tell non facility users to exit without delay as the car park is now monitored and fines may be issued.
A big thank you to our member Matt Moore who is working very hard on replacing the grating in the car park. This work was well overdue as the rain water could no longer drain off which started causing us problems.
As I am writing this email, we have the Racketball finals night. If you can, do still pop in and watch our competitors. There will be a finger buffet afterwards and you are welcome to stay.
Later on this evening, the social committee will have their pools and darts night again. Feel free to take part.

As we are heading into the Easter break we are excited to kick off with our new tennis coaching programme this weekend. If you wish to apply for a last minute place for the Easter camps, please let us know as we still have availability. Juliet, Luke and Oliver are all looking forward to working with you. They will be facilitating all group lessons and offer individual lessons. Please contact them directly to book a lesson. Their numbers are on our notice board and on the website.
For summer term lessons, please contact Juliet on firstname.lastname@example.org
In order to maximise the Club’s full potential and grow our membership we have opted for this new business model of taking the tennis coaching in-house. We believe that this was the right choice for Oakleigh Park and are looking forward to exciting times ahead.
We wish our current coaches Martin and Lennie all the very best for their future and would like to thank them for having held the fort for so long.
Thank you to Barbara, Carol and Penny for cooking for our Quiz Night a couple of weeks ago! Also, a big thank you goes to Phil, who organised and ran it. Again, it was a very good evening and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it!
Dates for your diary:

Club OPEN DAY: Sunday 14th May. More details to follow.
Ladies 1st Team had a decisive win over Farm Walk last week – they won 14 -2 – a great result ladies.
Ladies 4 finished top of East Division 6 in the Winter League which means they will be promoted next year – Well done to all the Ladies that played – a fantastic achievement.
We will let you know where all the other teams finished when all the winter league matches have been completed.
The U18s boys played their final match of the winter season last weekend losing 8-4 to a strong Conway side. Some results still need to be uploaded but it looks like they will finish 2nd or 3rd which is a great success with such a small squad, all of which played up 1 or 2 age brackets. The core team were Eden West, Nuri Morad, David Bennett & Eu-An Su with Eddie Condon and Hamish Aitkin also playing 1 or 2 games. Well done to all the boys! Special mention should go to Eu-An Su who won 7 out of 7 matches!
The Men’s 2nd team won their away game to Wembley & Sudbury 3-2 on Tuesday, securing their safety in Division 5. The team was Adrian Ledbury (captain), Kevin Wallis, David Bennett, Duncan Wheeler, Eli Pressman
Please note that the Squash tournaments draw will be up this weekend.
A reminder that advanced squash coaching sessions continue for another 3 weeks on Thursdays at 8.15pm. Please book with Lucas at https://app.punchpass.net/org/1286/classes
Junior squash & Tennis member David Bennett captained the Hertfordshire Racketlon team last weekend at the County Championships. They won Division 2, beating Kent, Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire to take the trophy.
And last but not least: Our ventilation in the squash courts will be replaced at the beginning of May. I am sorry that you had to wait a long time but now we have booked out the courts for this work and are looking forward to a good ventilation 😉 We will also replace the lights in the squash courts.
Please note that I will be away on holidays from next Tuesday afternoon. The office will be manned by volunteers but it will not be during regular hours.
Your next newsletter will come at the end of April.
HAVE A VERY NICE EASTER!
Junior squash and Tennis member David Bennett captained the Hertfordshire Racketlon team last weekend at the County Championships. They won Division 2, beating Kent, Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire to take the trophy.
I hope you had a fantastic summer break. It was quiet here last month as many of you were away on holiday. Now we are back and looking forward to the new term.
OP’s September was not only blessed with beautiful days of sunshine 😉 but with excellent Tennis tournament Finals last Sunday. We saw competitive tennis and our barbecue was firing on all cylinders too ;-). Well done everyone involved!
Have a look at the photographs in our website photo gallery.
We have resumed our term tennis sessions and our Squash and Racketball fans are enjoying their time on court too. In October we offer free Racketball intro sessions for the over 50’s! Check out our notice on the home page.
We introduced a new social tennis mix-in on Thursday afternoons, which is particularly popular because of the afternoon tea with home made cakes we offer all players afterwards (compliments of the house) !
I look forward to sharing my first Autumn with our members here at Oakleigh Park!
We are now well into the ‘summer’ and still no hot temperatures so far.. I guess we just have to accept it and hope for a better Autumn. By now, the Aegon and Wimbledon tournaments are behind us (well done Andy!) and we also held our summer party at Oakleigh Park (see photographs in the photo library and below) . We are about to start our junior holiday camps for tennis and squash and would like to remind you to please book your places as soon as possible.
Our free trial membership around the British Tennis Weekend in May proved to be a huge success as we managed to convert them into 8 adult and 15 junior memberships. We had very nice feedback such as a ‘friendly family orientated’ club which is ‘welcoming and open’ . Thank you for all your nice comments. We encourage families and newcomers to use the club as much as possible and in particular on Sunday afternoons when we have a family session. Although we don’t actively organise these sessions our committee members are usually on site to give support and advice.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and I look forward to seeing you after your holidays!
It is more than a month ago that I first arrived at Oakleigh Park and I feel very much part of the set up already ;-). People are so friendly and welcoming here and I truly enjoy my working environment 😉
In the month of May we have signed up over 70 individuals on our Open Day promotional offer, which is a one month free trial membership. We have invited the group to come and join a mix-in and group coaching session on the 5th June which was a great success. The weather was lovely and we had about 40 people on court!
Throughout the month of June we will run a variety of organised tennis and squash sessions for our new members and hope that old and new will mix very well!
As you probably know, I recently took over from Amanda and last week was my actual first week on my own. I must say that our members have been a great support and I truly appreciate the warm welcome I have received.
Whilst I try to deal with everything as fast as possible, please bear with me for a while as I have to understand where things are kept and how various processes have been done up to now. After a while I will suggest changes and we can discuss how to improve things at the club.
A little about me: I am Austrian by birth and came to live in London some 27 years ago. My educational background is the hospitality sector (hotel management). I first worked in the tourism industry and later as Club Manager of a Tennis & Squash Club in South West London before joining Oakleigh Park. I speak German, French and Italian and will happily converse in any of these languages if you wish 😉
I do play tennis and I started golf about a year ago. (Of course I learnt to ski in my earliest childhood as well, as most Austrian children do). I love working in a sports environment and, once I have the office under control, I will happily take part in tennis events if required. (I would not hold my breath for participating in any golf events as I do need a lot more practice !)
My very first day at Oakleigh Park was assisting at the I LOVE WHETSTONE event on the High Street. I was literally thrown into the deep end as I was helping at the stall talking to passers-by about our Club and figure out how to answer questions such as exact location, membership rates, children lesson programme etc. (Things I didn’t even know myself). That day was a taster day for promoting our Club, because the next event was the CLUB OPEN DAY on the 15th May, which I will talk about in my next blog.
Have a nice day!
